President Donald Trump ordered the removal of Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Commissioner Erika McEntarfer on Friday, hours after the agency reported weaker-than-expected job growth and large downward revisions to prior months. The Labor Department said Deputy Commissioner William Wiatrowski will serve as acting head while the White House considers a permanent replacement. McEntarfer, appointed in 2024 and confirmed on a bipartisan Senate vote, had overseen the nation’s flagship labor surveys during a period of unusually large revisions and lower survey response rates.
