A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., indicted Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier—described by U.S. authorities as a leading figure in Haiti’s gang alliances—on charges of conspiring with individuals in the United States and Haiti to evade U.S. sanctions, according to announcements made on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The Justice Department said Chérizier remains a fugitive and is believed to be in Haiti. The indictment was unsealed alongside related charges against a U.S. citizen alleged to have helped raise and funnel funds to Chérizier in violation of sanctions.
